Couple Therapy

Couple therapy is a very powerful approach for individual growth as well as for developing richly satisfying intimate relationships. My focus is to work in good faith toward a mutual understanding between partners.  I’m trained and experienced in treating relationship issues involving intimacy, communication, attachment styles, parenting, separation, and divorce.

It is often tempting to focus in session on the content of the most recent fight rather than on the ineffective process between partners. While solutions to “hot button” problems can be negotiated in therapy, the deeper work of altering dysfunctional patterns is what really leads to lasting positive changes in the relationship.

Couple therapy is not just about facing and resolving painful issues with your partner. The process evolves over time into a more joyful practice of building connectedness and pleasure while avoiding falling into old patterns.

I utilize Gottman skills, Imago healing work, and the 5 Love Languages when working with couples.

It is a priority for me to honor the beliefs of each client and to help each individual to grow within his or her own framework of values.  For those who want to have a faith-based/biblical component of their counseling, I’m glad to support you in that area and use Biblical principles to bring advancement/breakthrough.

Goals for couple therapy:

• Clarify and communicate concerns, needs, and goals
• Discover accurate information about self & partner
• Learn and practice interpersonal skills
• Make healthy decisions respecting each person’s needs
• Increase joy, meaning, and connection
